To date (22 Sept 2011) Home Sharing from iTunes of TV Shows has well known bugs, where on your iOS device (iPad, iPod, or AppleTV 2) show seasons appear multiple times, shows are misordered, and episode numbers are incorrect. The following Applescript program works around these bugs, by using the information from the Show, Episode Number, and Season Number fields to reset the Artist, Album Artist, Album, Disc Number, Track Number, and Episode ID fields. It also clears the various "sort" fields.
Download, uncompress, and place in your /Users/YOUR NAME/Library/iTunes/Script folder. In iTunes, select the TV episodes you want to fix and select the script from the Applescript menu. The script also optionally renames the show, renumbers the season, and numbers the episodes incrementally.
If you rip your own TV shows, another annoyance of the iPad Videos app is that when viewing all seasons of all shows, the names of the shows do not appear, and if no show artwork has been set, a random frame from the seasons appears instead. You can add artwork to a set of shows by selecting them all in iTunes, hit get info, click the checkbox next to the artwork box, and drag an image onto it. Note that dragging the artwork onto the art browser in the lower left corner of the main iTunes window does not work: instead of adding the artwork to all of the TV shows, iTunes converts the random scene clips into artwork!
